Chele Serviços & Consultoria, Lda. (CSC) is based in the port city of Beira. Recognising the high volume of cargo passing through the Port of Beira, we identified the need to establish, right next to the port, a stevedoring company with real added value — one focused on the professionalisation of its workers.
We have provided professional stevedoring services at the Port of Beira since 17 September 2004, always striving to do better, more organised and safer work every day.
We began by providing container-unpacking services at the container cargo terminal, with a team of professionals who, over time, passed on their knowledge to younger workers.
To equip our workforce with specialised skills, we organised targeted training programmes, giving rise to our “Alfaiates” (tailor) operators, dedicated to bagging services — a process carried out using bagging machines positioned alongside the quay where bulk-cargo vessels dock. We also developed our “Tambos” operators, responsible for arranging the wagon rails on the quay, and our Signalmen, who guide crane operators during the movement of cargo from ship to truck.
We employ a workforce of around one thousand two hundred (1,200) men, both permanent and casual, organised into a service manager, operations supervisors, shift supervisors and foremen. Our operations teams are split into two (2) brigades — Brigade A and Brigade B — working two (2) daily shifts.
Our stevedoring staff are covered by work-accident insurance from a reputable national insurer, and also benefit from medical and pharmaceutical assistance and other social support extended to spouses and minor children, as well as the right to meals during the operations in which they are involved.
As congestion grew at the Port of Beira, some players in the port’s logistics chain began privately building their own warehouses and dry ports outside the port area. With this in mind, and determined to grow, we expanded into providing stevedoring services at dry ports and warehouses outside the port itself — a decisive step for our stability and success, which has allowed us to become the only professional stevedoring company capable of meeting the demands of such a dynamic market.
Today we can confidently say that we have achieved genuine client satisfaction in our stevedoring operations, since our primary objective is always the satisfaction of those we serve. We provide stevedoring services with quality and safety, always guided by respect for and preservation of cargo, minimising the risk of loss through spillage. Our greatest value is human life — which is why we are guided by strict internal safety policies, striving to pass on to our workers knowledge of workplace health and safety, and respect for human life.
